The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) honors students who have excelled in the five pillars of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. Becoming a member of the NJHS is an honor. Students who are invited to join the NJHS are leaders in their school; oftentimes engaging in meaningful community service. These students demonstrate a strong character when building relationships with others that embody honesty, integrity, respect, and perseverance. Students in the NJHS strengthen the Centner Academy community.
At the close of the first semester, report cards for students in grades 6th through 8th will be reviewed to ensure that students meet the minimum grade point average (GPA) of a 3.5 as evaluated through the MyCA (Blackbaud) platform.
Students who qualify academically for invitation to NJHS will be reviewed by administrators and NJHS advisors. Any student who does not embody the core values of Centner Academy will be removed from the invitation list. Students who have received indoor and/or outdoor suspension, have accumulated a poor behavioral record, or have shown any academic misconduct will be automatically disqualified from receiving an invitation.
An updated list of NJHS candidates will be shared with the middle school teacher so that they may provide input as to the student character.
The administrators and NJHS Advisors will review the faculty. Should the feedback indicate that a particular student does not embody the Centner Academy Core Values and/or the five pillars of the NJHS, that student will be removed from the candidate list.Â
Students who embody the five pillars of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship will be invited to join the Centner Academy chapter of NJHS. Students who qualify academically but do not receive an invitation to NJHS are encouraged to formally inquire as to their status in writing to the administration and/or NJHS advisor. The administration and NJHS advisors will meet and a formal response will be provided.
