Our Curriculum
The development of emotional intelligence is integrated into our Centner Academy curriculum through problem- and project-based learning. Our curriculum combines a deep commitment to emotional intelligence, mindfulness, and happiness in a challenging academic setting featuring language immersion, problem solving, creativity, and collaboration. Using a strengths-based approach to learning, all of our students and teachers have opportunities to do what they love across the curriculum. We believe that teacher engagement is maximized when they are able to focus on their strengths and interests.
"Centner Academy’s curriculum is academically rigorous and enhanced or augmented by focusing on happiness, health, relationships, and resilience" (Fastcompany, 2019). "At the Centner Academy, a new school in Miami that is opening in September, the school day will start with meditation. Lunch will include a mindfulness lesson. Throughout the day, students have lessons on subjects like emotional intelligence and how to be resilient in the face of challenges."
Students are given projects that require them to use problem-solving and critical thinking skills. This helps students create authentic learning experiences using our research-backed learning strategies across all subject areas, with learners and teachers having access to a variety of tools to support every student. Subjects and classes are not isolated but connect in meaningful ways to generate new methods of thinking. Entrepreneurial thinking, collaboration, creativity, communication, and leadership skills are outcomes in all subjects.
